This artificial collection of text, photographs, and drawings documents Mount Pleasant (Mich.) history, people, businesses, and events. Of special note are the 35th-50th anniversaries of the Mount Pleasant High School graduating class of 1943; Energy Fest 1987; Kirkey Electric Grand Opening, 1950; local people including E. Lee Johnson and Johnson Motors, Inc., 1948, H. Edward Duel, past mayor, correspondence from Ezra Going to Mildred Weidman, 1908; correspondence from Will Lamb and Charlie to Alice Miller, 1901-1902, 1904; organizations and businesses including the Saginaw-Bay City Floral Culture Society, 1922; Isabella County officials and assistants, 1935; E. B. Muller Company Chicory Plant; the Mill; the Columbia Sugar Company, 1924; and the Downtown Restaurant, 1940; World War II ration books; and resolutions for the 100th Anniversary of Mount Pleasant, 1989.

Doughty was born and lived in the Doughty House in Mount Pleasant (Mich.). He operated his father's dry goods business, attended public schools, Alma College, and the University of Michigan. In 1897 he married Mabel I. Bishop (1871-1959) and together they had three children. He was a member of the Board of Trade, Board of Education, and the Presbyterian Church.
